Suzuki DL650 V-STROM XT Review

The V-Strom series of motorcycles by Suzuki has always been reliable, great value and solid. The 2017 Suzuki DL650 V-Strom is no different and it has a few upgrades such as compliance with Euro4, a refreshing style, new colours, more torque and power to name a few. The V-Strom gets the job done without any hassles at a lower price, making it the best one in the series. Let’s take a look to see what makes the Suzuki DL650 V-Strom a phenomenal motorcycle.


The handling of the Suzuki DL650 V-Strom XT is nimble and neutral as it isn’t too quick. Taking on corners feel effortless as it doesn’t take much effort to do it smoothly and comfortably. Changing directions after coming out of a corner is quick, giving the bike a stable feeling.

Even though the forks of the suspension cannot be adjusted, Suzuki did a marvellous job in tuning the stock settings to make the ride plusher. On the motorways, the DL650 will pass the bumps with ease, even if they are bigger than normal. The rear shock doesn’t compress when you accelerate, making the bike more balanced and level, allowing you to concentrate on riding the marvellous motorcycle.

The new seat for the DL650 is narrower than the one in the previous model. The ride height stays at 840mm but you can adjust it to 810mm or 870mm accordingly. The ride is extremely comfortable due to its riding position and the seat design. You can adjust the height of the screen with the help of Allen keys. Traction control and ABS are standard features for the motorcycle. The newer model is lighter than the older one by a kilogram. Suzuki also fitted the motorcycle with an Easy Start system like the one on the SV650. However, you have to pay more if you want heated grips.


The motorcycle has a 71bhp V-twin, four stroke, DOHC, and liquid cooled engine that is capable of displacing 645cc, just enough power to get your adrenaline rushing when you are riding it. The engine has received an update with 60 new parts. Suzuki fitted ‘Low RPM assist’ to reduce the stall when you release the clutch. The Electronic Fuel Injection or EFI has been set up extremely well by Suzuki, making it almost seamless to roll on and off the throttle. Whether you are on an open road or one filled with turns, the engine on DL650 doesn’t disappoint.


Overall, the Suzuki DL650 V-Strom XT is one the best budget motorcycles that is a sports-tourer. It is easy to handle the motorcycle while taking and coming out of a turn. The build quality of DL650 is spot on and you won’t have any problems in taking the motorcycle for long distance riding. You can easily dominate the bike and enjoy the ride as much as possible. It may not have enough power or outrageous handling to put a grin on your face but you can’t get anything better at a price of £7,899.
